Dungeons & Dragons is a game all about immersion and world-building. As such, a good DM will keep you on your heels, but also keep you locked into the world that they’re building. Hell, this level of immersion is why many people get so obsessed with the game that it becomes half their personality.
If your DM is a dick, however, you’re going to be thinking about the rules of the game more so than the game itself. Reddit user Khargoth’s DM is one such dick.
In a recent post to r/dndhorrorstories that has since been deleted, Khargoth says that his Dungeon Master laid out 44 rules that must be followed before playing with him.
In short, he sounds like an absolute suppurating asshole, including such preschool level taunts as “If you call me or my rolls unfair, I’ll get up and go home,” and “Every snide comment you make to an npc will be remembered and paid back in triplicate.”
Fuck, man, just go to therapy.
Understandably, this whole thing got some major DnD posters upset — and now, they’re sharing their thoughts.
Screw it, let's go through the list.

1. "I'm timing turns." (I'm ignoring the hostile language and just getting to the points)
It is good to keep DM and players alike aware of time, but arbitrary limits are not helpful and will become harder as characters level. pic.twitter.com/J9gzUTuPqP
X/Twitter user Aram, who produces a DnD podcast, broke down each individual rule and explained why they’re all bullshit. He’s also included some reading into the DM’s personality, noting things like, “Every time this DM states ‘I don’t care’ he clearly very much cares.”
13. "Tardiness means in-game punishment."

Any negatives your PC suffers as result of a real-world action breaks the rules of the game, personal boundaries, and immersion.
What reason is there left to play?
Of course, there was likely more to this story than just one guy being a dick. One would hope that if someone feels the need to lay out these rules, there were a series of incidents that led up to them — though that admittedly doesn’t excuse our man’s rude messaging.
the only thing the GM did wrong was not dissolve the group 3 months before it got to this point tbh https://t.co/8rNuH6yI09

This is absolutely someone who's at his breaking point with a problem group and has given up being nice to try to finally reel them in. https://t.co/HjgTKTImcU

Regardless, I’m going to go ahead and say that he’s at the very least a jerk, and he should probably figure out how to better manage a group of human beings before he tries to be a dungeon “master” again.
